Our second stop on our summer roadtrip was to my grandparent’s house on the Olympic Peninsula, a beautiful piece of the world just a short drive off the ferry from Seattle. It had been quite a while since we’d been been back, and the first time for our kids. Beautiful, calm, serene and brimming with amazing ocean scenery. Plus, the company is pretty great too! We spent hours talking, picking raspberries, walking along the beach, visiting Port Townsend, eating delicious food and reconnecting. I’ve always loved their house, but I felt a greater sense of appreciation for my grandma’s beautiful style and all their unique additions from their travels around the world.

Family Storehouse has everything you need for disaster survival, auto emergency preparedness, water treatment, and emergency food supplies. And if their amazing dried peaches aren’t enough, very soon they will have a new website using pictures from our photoshoot. Does that kitchen look familiar?
Laura and Jared came to surprise Isaac for his birthday celebration today. So here’s some pictures of them enjoying our new house with us (pictures of the festivities to come). And yes, these are the only rooms that are close to being done which is why I keep posting them. I’ll post a picture of the outside as requested on Monday when they finish the last of it.
(couch was a Craigslist find that Geoff and I painted and had upholstered, green chairs are a Craigslist find as well)
(All the chairs and stools are from the Sundance Outlet. I collected them through the last year as they went to their As Is Section. Saved a TON of money that way! I have what I call, a healthy obsession with the Tolix brand.)
Here’s some new pictures of the house. We’re still crossing our fingers for the first or second week in January.
The kitchen/dining room with a mini peak at the lovely wood floors. We’re waiting on some taller french doors.
The laundry room. Is it wrong to love a tile so much? They are penny rounds, though with the wide angle, they look hexagonal, don’t be deceived.
We hope to see lots of this going around in months to come. I can’t wait to see this room without the wood being covered up!
Things continue to move along at a fast breaking speed. We couldn’t be happier about it. The house has been dry-walled and is now being taped and mudded. I guarantee the workers think we are nutty coming over all the time with massive grins on our faces, saying “thank you” a million times. What can I say, we are SO excited.
I might note here, because I’ve been getting some grief, these pictures are all taken with my WIDE angle lens to get everything in. So while it is a sweet home, it isn’t quite as grand (ie. large) as my camera makes it seem.

(and a sneek peak of my kitchen into the living room)
Many of you have asked me to keep posting updates on the house. If you weren’t one of those people, skip over this.
Things are moving at lightening speed I am SO pleased to report. While I still am trying to not get my hopes up, word is there is a small miracle of a chance we might make it in around Christmas or shortly after. Send your prayers up to the construction faries for us.
The following pictures were taken the day I left for NY (Wednesday). The basement was beginning to be framed. Isaac loves to go out and work at his “job” as he calls it. The men are so cute to him and let him hammer away at things. Apparently he was a little put-out later that day when he told Geoff that he hadn’t been paid yet. Wow.
We’ve been eating our lunch at the new “house” on good weather days. It’s so fun to see the progress along the way.
And this picture of the back of the house was taken today. Top floor is just starting to be framed. That’s a total of 3 weeks since ground breaking people.
I had a whole shoot in mind for these costumes, but alas, I had to stifle the photographer in me and just be a mom and pull off the side of the road for a few quick shots on the way to Amy’s. We ate a delicious dinner and then headed out for some trick-or-treating around her new neighborhood. Lucy would open a new candy the second she got it and shove it into her mouth. Needless to stay, we didn’t keep her out very long. Isaac, Livi and Ethan had a blast together, running from one house to the next. I’ll have to get those pictures from Amy as I forgot my flash-dang it! Hope you all had a wonderfully fun and candy-filled day!
Hansel and Gretel. Please note the bread in Isaac’s hand that he insisted on bringing with him so he could drop crumbs.
Hansel being upset because his dad left him in the woods. (Have you read the story lately, it’s actually pretty disturbing!)
I found Lucy’s dress at Goodwill a while ago and altered and changed it a bit. Isaac’s lederhosen were from my parent’s dress up box, they’re the real deal! Everything else was stuff I already had.
Here is a typical scene in our bedroom: Lucy, snoozing it where I’m suppose to be sleeping. So much for those mother of one days! She does actually wake up, it’s just that everytime I move her into good lighting, she closes her eyes!
Geoff and I have been out working a lot in the yard lately so I thought I’d show it off a bit (mostly for praise from my mother, lets be honest). Our garden is all planted in the back and we can’t WAIT for all the fresh produce we’ll be taking in by the loads. Looks like today will be beautiful. We plan on doing some stuff around the house, buying a new BBQ, and putting it to use. What will you be doing today to celebrate? My sister and her kids will be “adopting a solider” for the day, what a great idea!
As a side note: No, these are not all our flags. Geoff has been incharge of putting these out in ward member’s yards, and they stopped doing it this year. We have them all out infront of our house for people to take. Kind of wish they were all mine though.
