I had a wonderful time at Girls Camp (pictures to come soon), but came home to some sadness. Thursday night, Isaac and Geoff were making homemade popcorn and Isaac reached for the pot with hot oil in it, spilling it on his upper thigh to below his knee. Geoff reacted quickly, pulling his pjs off and putting him in the sink with cold water. He went to our pediatrician who sent him to the Burn Unit up in Salt Lake City where they scrapped off the burned skin and bandaged him. Imagine coming home and seeing your little boy like this! I was a definitely a mess for a couple days. It breaks my heart that Geoff had to go through it alone, but I’m so grateful for him and the loving and tender daddy that he is. He was able to comfort Isaac and take care of him so wonderfully.
Isaac has been so brave through the whole ordeal. We have experienced many miracles already. We change the bandages twice a day and bathe him at night, cleaning the burn area to ward off infection. Not much is worse to me than this, putting my child in pain. He is very stiff in the morning and not able to move his leg. He uses Lucy’s baby stroller as a “walker” until he is able to walk on his own. I’ve been reminded over this ordeal what a sweet, sweet boy he is and what a tender spirit he has.
I will be taking him to the Burn Unit again on Friday where they will assess the burn and determine if he will need skin grafts and how much longer he’ll need to stay bandaged. We are praying for a positive diagnosis.
Here is a picture of his leg wrapped. I decided not-wrapped was a little too graphic.
Oh, that poor little guy! We will pray for a speedy recovery!
What a sad event. Hope he comes through it quickly!! He’ll probably bounce back faster than you guys will.
Oh Leah! I am so sorry, your family will be in our prayers. Please..what can I do for you? Can I bring your family Dinner? Anything!
Oh dear. How awful and scary for all of you to go through. I’m so thankful it wasn’t worse and will be praying for God’s comfort to you all and a speedy and full recovery for sweet Issac. I was just looking at your photos this morning and noting your childrens’ joyfulness – hate to think of any of our dear ones in pain.
Oh, you poor little guys! I hope you receive good news at your next appointment and that Isaac continues his good spirits.

I am so sorry that you have to go through this. I have tears in my eyes as a mother what this must be like to see your child in pain that you can’t control. My heart goes out to you. You will be in my prayers for a fast and thorough recovery. Take care Leah.

It sounds like little Isaac is in very good hands and hopefully he heals really fast without too much pain. Sweet little boy…ok now I’m tearing up. I’m sorry that this happened to him. He is blessed and he is strong. Hang in there you guys!

Give him a big hug from us!
POOR BABY!
I have a nice scare on my calf from when I was right about his age…grabbed the boiling pot of water (for spagetthi). 3rd degree…so I have a nice round scar…we can be scar brothers (you know like “blood brothers”). I am sure I’m not making you laugh right now…
Oh Leah, I’m so sorry. How scary for Geoff, and what a trooper it sounds like Isaac is being. I’m glad your home now to “baby” him through this… Hope all turns out well.
Sorry to hear you’re going through this! Wishing you all well, and for a fast recovery.
I was so sad when I heard about this, but I’m glad that he’s healing. Our thoughts and prayers are with him.
That is horrible! I only wish him the best and hope it will heal on his own without needing grafts. What a strong little boy he must be. My family will be prating for him.
So Sad!! Burns are the worst! At least you live in a state with an awesome Burn Unit..the U is one of the best!!We will be praying for him!
Tell Isaac we wish him well! Poor little guy.

O Leah I can’t imagine. I pray it all heals soon. My heart and prayers with your family.

Poor little guy with the most beautiful blue eyes – this is so sad to read imagining the pain that he is in. Feel better soon – prayers for your family.
This is so sad! What a brave little guy! You guys are in our prayers.
Oh Goodness. 🙁
I don’t even recall how I came across your blog..I believe through a coworker that just adored your photography. Needless to say, I’ve never left a comment before but peek in on your blog from time to time…
Bless his heart. AND yours. I was compelled to comment because I can so understand what its like to see your child in pain. My own little guy (now 8!) was attacked by a neighbor dog nearly two years ago..gosh, two years? Could it be THAT long?! When your child is injured it all seems like a moment ago and yet forever ago that your live change.
My prayers are with you and your family…may Isaac have as speedy and complication free recovery like our Camden. Take it from me,there will be days that your heart just breaks and other’s you are just in amazement at the spirit of your children. We learn so so much through them…who KNEW they’d be our strength sometimes through these rough times? 🙂

You can check my own blog – October 2007…to read his own little story of recovery. Take care!
Breaks my heart- not only the pictures but especially the story about him and at the Burn place. Give Ike a hug from his auntie!
Haven’t checked your blog in waaaaay too long. I am so sorry you had to go through this- poor trooper!
I was reading Anna’s post about the Cougar Run and had to read what happened to Isaac….I’m so glad it’s turning out the best possible. My second oldest broke his arm last month, and it was so tough to see him in pain, scared, etc, but then amazing how the heal and get right back into being a kid!
