One of the best things about having more children is watching your oldest become a brother. Even though I panic at times thinking that John is going to injure Charlie with all of his roughness, I am often surprised at how much Charlie loves to be close to his older brother — no matter how rough he is. It is amazing how much babies can endure! I agree with Amy that even though the baby has little control over the kind of treatment that is given them–they still delight in any interaction with their sibilings (at least after they figure out that their sibilings aren’t going away).
